Friends of Italian Week Versione Italiana
It is with pride that I announce the forthcoming Italian Week 2007, a celebration which allows me to associate the name of the Consulate of Italy and myself personally to a series of events which I consider of utmost importance, due to their artistic level and for the impact they will have on the Italian Community residing in Brisbane and for all Australians appreciating the unique value of Italian Culture.
Each of the events has the common characteristic of portraying a dynamic and modern Italy with special attention to the story of Italian immigration in Australia and its contribution to the enrichment of the local culture.
The common element is the concept of the voyage, depicted here as the search of something new, the instinctive attraction for the unknown, the desire of knowledge in the widest sense of the word. It is initiatives like these that can finally contribute toward spreading a new and more actual image of the Italian presence in Australia. No longer experienced by the new generation as painful abandonment of ones own origins, but rather as a free choice of lifestyle. One in which, strong ties with their own past and with the Italian culture integrate perfectly with the availability to travel, with the opening of the “new” and with full and effective social integration.
In this new dimension, we have decided to present Italian artists coming to perform and to complete their artistic formation in Australia and to encourage the artistic skills of recent Italian travellers.
Convinced that the work and commitment of this Consulate can have the important function to pursue and support the significant social and custom changes which the Italian community here in Queensland and the Northern Territory are encountering, it is my intention to propose an image of the modern and present day Italy, whilst at the same time evaluating her unique cultural traditions.
With this point of view I wish to mention that the name of this Consulate of Italy in Brisbane will be associated with initiatives of similar cultural level and importance.

It.
stesso Com.It. Es..
straordinario Paese.

Cav. Stephen J. Pellegrino, in conjunction with the Consulate of Italy in Brisbane, is offering also for the year 2010 a scholarship to Australian citizens and Italian citizens permanently residing in Queensland. As commonly known, from 2007 the scholarship privileges Italian and Australian musicians and takes place within the Italian Week, the official celebration of the Italian National Day.
