Selene Pennetta is a professional dancer and artist who is not only a performer of the ancient and sensual “Pizzica”, but also an expert in its history and modern interpretation.

The Pizzica is a traditional dance from Salento, in the Italian region of Puglia. Fable tells us that this frenzied dance was originally devised as a means of dispersing the poison from the tarantula bite. Today it is recognised as a therapeutic dance for the soul. Join us to learn more of the magic of this alluring dance.

The Dante Alighieri Society
The Dante Alighieri Society was founded in Rome in 1889 and aims to promote the diffusion of the Italian language and culture.  It is now established in most countries and major cities throughout the world.

The Dante Alighieri Society is non religious and non political and welcomes as new members all those who have a genuine interest in Italy, its language and its culture.

The Brisbane branch of the Society was re-founded in 1952 and attracts a very active group of members from all walks of life.
