Mandolins in Brisbane will perform a free concert at Old Government House on Sunday June 4 from 11am as part of the Italian Week celebrations.  The concert will include works from great Italian composers Verdi and Vivaldi and will feature a range of Italian favorites conducted by Joel Woods.  Pieces include popular Italian songs such as “O Sole Mio” and “Una Sera a Napoli”.

Mandolins in Brisbane (MIB) is Queensland’s foremost mandolin and guitar ensemble. It comprises of two playing groups, the Queensland Mandolin Ensemble (QME) and Brisbane Mandolins. Founded in Brisbane, Queensland in 1998, Mandolins In Brisbane plays a varied repertoire from renaissance to contemporary. Both playing groups not only continue the well established traditions of mandolin music founded in Italy, but also performs classical, folk, bluegrass and popular music from across the globe. 

 

Brisbane Mandolins is conducted by classical guitarist and musical director, Joel Woods. The Queensland Mandolin Ensemble is lead by principal first mandolin player and group leader Marissa Carroll.
