Lost in translation

Italian food has travelled to the furthest corners of the globe. Unfortunately, it has always tended to arrive slightly travel-worn. Time, local ingredients and the cultures to which it is served can mean what starts as a spaguetti with pork cheek, pecorino cheese and eggs (carbonara) becomes a dish of bacon, cream and mushrooms.

Storytelling a pizza cake for these kids

Indigenous Kuranda's students and the Italian language: Kuranda District State College students, some as young as 7, have illustrated a Dreamtime story - written in English, Italian and Djabugay - that has been published in Florence as part of a school project. "This is absolute gold to us", school principal Gary Toshach said. Lycia Erwin, 10, a Djabugay girl, is amazed at how easily the stories of her people translate. "It is bellissimo", she laughed.
