Message from The Right Honourable the Lord Mayor of Brisbane Councillor Graham Quirk

Italian Week is a wonderful celebration of Italian culture in Queensland. Each year, it provides a snapshot of what it is to be Italian, giving the rest of Brisbane the chance to experience the best of Italian food, art, performance, fashion, engineering and design.

Over the last few years, the Italian Week festival has grown to become a highlight of Brisbane’s multicultural calendar.

Brisbane has a significant Italian population that makes a valuable contribution to our city’s economic, social, and cultural life. As Lord Mayor, I am pleased to support festivals like Italian Week that promote our city’s vibrant multicultural community.

This year’s theme, “Dolce Far Niente” describes a way of indulging in life’s pleasures without a care. It encourages everyone to relax or enjoy blissful laziness without the guilt that normally goes with it. The program covers a broad range of free and ticketed events, with something for everyone. I encourage you to come along and show your support for the festival.

Congratulations to Cav. Alessandro Sorello and his team of organisers of Brisbane’s Italian Week on producing another amazing events program for 2011.
