From the catwalks of Milan to the Emerald Beaches of Sardinia, from the relics of Ancient Rome, to the crystal blue waters of the Mediterranean, Italian Week is your chance to enjoy Italy without the airfare. Italy is the ultimate epitome of classical beauty and contemporary appeal, imbued with renaissance gracefulness and cultural uniqueness. Its fashion, automobiles, leather goods, gourmets and fine wine have long been the world's envy.
Italian Culture and lifestyle is firmly entrenched in the Australian cultural landscape and continues to grow in appreciation and interest. Italy is a country where you can find tradition fused with innovation. The "Made in Italy" label represents not only the highest quality achieved by all the Italian craftsmen but also the persistency they hold throughout centuries.
Italian Week celebrates the National Day of Italy, presenting the genius and Italian lifestyle and showcases the very unique Italian experience via Art, gastronomy and luxury conveyance. This year, 2011 marks a very special point in Italy’s history, on March 17th; Italy celebrated its 150th anniversary of its unification as a single state. As we celebrate this important milestone in Italian history, we also honor the joint efforts of those who came to Australia seeking a new life, and to those who embraced Italy’s unique culture and celebrate its lifestyle and traditions.
Honoring this achievement, Italian Week has facilitated a project entitled ‘The Illumination’ which see’s the lighting up of the Story Bridge, the Treasury Casino and Newstead House in red, white and green, the colors of the Italian flag for the duration of Italian Week. This tribute highlights the integration of Italian culture into Australian lifestyle.
The theme for Italian Week is ‘Dolce Far Niente’ which literally means "sweet doing nothing" or "Delicious idleness". It is sheer indulgent relaxation and blissful relaxation, being deliciously idle, enjoying your leisure time. We invite you to join in on the numerous FREE and ticketed events around the State. Indulge yourself in ‘Dolce far Niente’ and enjoy the artistry and traditions of one of the world’s oldest and richest cultures.
Italian Week 2011 see's the launch of the Italian Club offering specials and discounts to members, Its free to join!!!
Once again, Italian Week is proud and pleased to support the Hear and Say Centre for Children born deaf and this years objective is to raise $10,000 for the Centre and thus have another child enter the program.
